The Q&A

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF

I suppose I have a serious thing about dogs. All dogs, really. They are the perfect helper, confidant, and best friend. My love of writing started when I read my first Nancy Drew at age 10 and precociously wrote what I felt was a better ending. Finding my writer’s voice took years and it wasn’t until my couch potato mother, adopted a Jack Russell Terrier that I found my call to action. While my mother’s experience proved fraught with unforeseen minor catastrophes, I do believe there is a ‘right’ dog for everyone. With a little research about a dog’s personality and traits you can find your new BFF (Best Furry Friend).

LIST THREE FUN FACTS ABOUT YOURSELF THAT WE WOULDN’T READ IN YOUR ‘OFFICIAL’ BIO.

  1. I don’t understand why anyone would hike when there’s a perfectly good horse to ride.
  2. Although my heroine, Cat, is a coffee addict, I enjoy a warm cup of tea. Preferably something exotic with a hint of fruit.
  3. Pickleball is my game of choice but I’m happiest in a yoga class.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START WRITING? WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WRITE COZY MYSTERIES?

Every passionate dog owner inspires me to write their stories. What better way to pay tribute to their experiences than by writing a cozy mystery with a feel good, happy ending. Each book features a different dog breed and highlights the breed’s standard traits and behaviors.

I am a glass-half-full optimist and believe everyone should have a BFF. My favorite fan mail came from a mother who thanked me for writing Shepherded to Death (about a German Shepherd and a jewel heist). After reading the book with her son, they decided that a German Shepherd was not a good fit for their family. They now own a Golden Doodle and couldn’t be happier.

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR COZY MYSTERY SERIES. WHAT INSPIRES YOUR SERIES?

The Barkview Mysteries are set in Barkview, the dog friendliest city in America. Here designated leash lanes lead to hound playgrounds, and everyone has a BFF (Best Furry Friend) except for Cat Wright, the lone cat person living in a town populated by over-the-top dog lovers. The series is about Cat’s journey to find the perfect dog for her.

WHY DO YOU THINK PEOPLE LOVE TO READ COZY MYSTERIES?

Cozies deliver the ‘Happy Hallmark Movie dream’— it’s that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when every day, quirky characters get their happy ending.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE WRITERS?

My favorite writers, hmmm. I am an eclectic reader. I LOVE a good action adventure from Ian Fleming to Clive Cussler and Dan Brown, I’m hooked. Lori Roberts Herbst, Janet Evanovich and Agatha are on my TBR (to be read) pile.

IF YOU WERE MAROONED ON A DESERTED ISLAND, WHAT 3 BOOKS WOULD YOU WANT WITH YOU?

The three books I would want marooned on an island…  The Bible. Murder on the Orient Express, and Sahara.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PROJECTS COMING UP THAT YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE WITH US?

My next book will release in March 2024 just in time for Opening Day at the ballpark, which is perfect. Labradored to Death features Minor League Baseball’s fan favorite bat dogs. These are the fearless dogs that fetch bats, foul balls, run the bases and bring a dog’s love to the baseball diamond. The next time you go to the ball game don’t forget to cheer the four-legged athletes.

I’d like to invite your dog to become an honorary Barkview resident. Just send their picture to cbwilsonauthor@gmail.com and join the Barkview family.
